Display & Safety Rules
**Your entire project board and any items you are bringing to display with your project board fit within the maximum project guidelines. Your display cannot be more than 30 inches deep, 48 inches wide, or 9 feet tall from the floor to the top of the project. **
Since USEF (our regional fair) has to follow some pretty strict display and safety rules, here are some tips for your project display to avoid disappointment. These are the top 8 items that students bring to our fair that are not allowed. If you have a question about an item that you are not sure about, please ask a teacher or contact us before the fair. The entire list of ISEF display no-no's can be found here. |
1. ANYTHING LIVING: This includes plants (living or dead), seeds, animals and live bacteria and fungus. If your seeds or plants are attached to your display board, they need to be removed. You can replace the items with photos of the seeds or plants.
2. FOOD: This includes food that you have used for your experiment or food that is attached to your display board (for example, popcorn). Please take photos of the food and bring them instead. Animal food is also not allowed.
3. OTHER ORGANIC MATERIALS - No sand, soil, dirt, leaves, dead plants, or other items that could cause a mess on the display room floor.
4. LIQUID: This means no water, no chemicals, and no ice. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to drink from at the fair, but water may not be used as part of the display.
5. GLASS: Glass is breakable and we do not want it on the floor with lots of people around. No glass jars, terrariums, bottles, etc.
6. POISONS, DRUGS, CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: This includes weapons of any kind and any type of medication glued to your display board.
7. SHARP ITEMS: This includes syringes, needles and knives. These items cannot be on display OR attached to your display board.
8. PHOTOS OF PEOPLE WITHOUT CONSENT: You may not display faces of people from your study who have not given written permission for you to do so. Any photo consents need to present in the scientific journal. Photos of the student scientist are acceptable.
